This Mid-Autumn Festival, AMBELIE Gallery was honored to collaborate with de Gournay, the renowned British hand-painted wallpaper brand, to host an exclusive dinner event in Shanghai. With its unique blend of contemporary art and heritage design, AMBELIE is the perfect setting for this cultural gathering, where East meets West under the glow of the full moon.
We were delighted to welcome de Gournay’s founder Claud Cecil Gurney and Global Operations Director Hannah Cecil Gurney to this special occasion. Together with the gallery's founders, Amber and Elie, the evening celebrated the rich traditions of the Mid-Autumn Festival, as guests enjoyed a fusion of cuisines and an artistic atmosphere inspired by this significant cultural event.

The Unveiling of "Coco Coromandel"
As part of the Mid-Autumn celebration, AMBELIE and de Gournay are proud to unveil two custom-designed wallpapers created exclusively for the event.
Inspired by Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel’s legendary Paris apartment, “Coco Coromandel” is a modern reinterpretation of traditional Chinese lacquered screens. Hand-painted on de Gournay’s signature rice paper, this piece combines peacocks, phoenixes, and peonies in a breathtaking scene, echoing the spirit of the ancient trade routes that brought Eastern art to the West. The subtle use of traditional kuan cai techniques recalls the elegance of Ming dynasty craftsmanship, while the monochromatic palette adds a contemporary edge.

The second wallpaper, designed especially for this event, is a Mid-Autumn Festival special edition. This exclusive design captures the serene beauty of a moonlit landscape. Painted in soft hues of magenta and gold, the artwork reflects the harmony of nature and culture, making it the perfect backdrop for this unique celebration.
