AMBELIE presents a new exhibition in collaboration with HAROL'S, featuring 30 recent works by Chinese artist Tongli Wu. Spanning landscapes, flowers and birds, and figurative subjects, the exhibition offers a nuanced view of the artist's evolving practice. Within each composition, the understated lyricism of ink painting is preserved, while modern materials and experimental approaches are subtly introduced, reflecting Wu's ongoing dialogue between tradition and contemporaneity.
At the core of Tongli Wu's practice is the pursuit of “seeing the greater whole through the small”. He likens smallscale paintings to classical Chinese quatrains: concise in form yet rich in resonance. Within a limited pictorial space, variations in brush pressure, the density and rhythm of ink, and the orchestration of composition become a quiet conversation with nature and the artist's inner sensibilities.
